Well-established Dutch shipyard Amels, part of the Damen Shipyards Group, has been building pleasure yachts and working vessels since its inception in 1918.
Located in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, Amels specialises in constructing semi-custom and fully custom yachts, distinguishing itself with a commitment to superb craftsmanship and innovative design. Deeply rooted in Dutch maritime tradition and family shipbuilding, Amels initially began building wooden fishing boats, steel tugboats, and coasters before transitioning to constructing pleasure boats.
Launching its first superyacht, the 48.2-metre Katalina, in 1982, her delivery marked a significant milestone in the shipyard’s history. In 1991, the shipyard’s acquisition by Kommer Damen saw Amels become part of the Damen family’s rich shipbuilding legacy while preserving its unique identity and expertise. Renowned for its Amels Limited Editions range, initially launched in 2005, these special yacht models skillfully combine the benefits of semi-custom design with bespoke interiors. Including six motor yacht designs ranging from 55 to 83 metres (180 to 272 feet), the Limited Editions series has achieved great international success. Additionally, Amels remains committed to its bespoke capabilities, catering to unique owner specifications through its full custom and refit services, exemplified by the currently under-construction Project Tanzanite. Scheduled for delivery in 2025, this Amels 120 full custom vessel is currently the largest superyacht in-build in the Netherlands and the largest Amels to be built to date. The shipyard’s current fleet includes the popular Amels 60 and Amels 80, part of the Limited Editions range, showcasing the perfect balance of innovation and timeless design.
