It is the southern most place to start cruising the fjords, and also home to Norway’s oldest cathedral, Utstein Monastery, a medieval monastery that was once home to the Viking King Harald Fairhair. Nearby you have a mountain named Pulpit Rock, made famous by Tom Cruise when he climbed it in Mission Impossible.

Bergen is known as the Gateway to the Fjords and another perfect place to start a charter through the fjords. The city is warmer than you may expect and it is known for the amount of rain which it receives. The city’s name comes from the word for mountain and there are some hot spots you must visit, two of the best being Mount Floyen and the Funicular, and Mount Ulriken and its Cable Car. Linking the two Mounts is the Vidden Trail, which will give you wonderful viewing opportunities one after the other.

The city has a number of places of cultural interest, including Bryggen, the Hanseatic Wharf and a UNESCO Heritage Site, a museum, galleries, speciality museums like Kode and Troldhaugen, the home of the composer Edvard Grieg, the Bergen aquarium and others. Other interesting activities include forest tours, jet-boating, a guided tour to Nærøyfjorden, Flåm and Stegastein, a trip on the Bergen Railway.
