One of the three concepts Damen originally unveiled with the launch of its SeaXplorer range at the 2015 MYS, the SeaXplorer 90 concept introduced the first purpose-built, Polar Code-compliant explorer superyacht at this size with transoceanic range.
Measuring 90 metres in length, with a beam of 16 metres and a draught of 5.25metres, she offers an internal volume of 5,000 GT. Her exterior design and naval architecture are by Azure, with operational input from EYOS Expeditions, whose polar experience shaped hundreds of practical decisions across the range. The SeaXplorer platform is built around Damen’s patented Sea Axe bow for seakeeping in heavy water, paired with a double-acting Polar Class 6 steel hull that pushes through ice roughly a metre thick. Key features onboard SeaXplorer 90 include a bow point observation lounge, an indoor-outdoor sky lounge on the bridge deck, and a crow’s nest set more than twenty metres above the water. Her expedition equipment includes two 6-tonne-class helicopters in a fully enclosed below-deck hangar with workshop, fuel and pilot accommodation, a submersible garage and launch system, a dive centre with recompression chamber and divemaster workshop, a 12-metre dive support tender, and a fast-launch system for a 7.5-metre expedition tender. The SeaXplorer 90 is capable of accommodating up to 22 guests, in addition to 36 crew and expedition staff members. Powered by a diesel propulsion system, she has a top speed of 16 knots.
