Blohm+Voss, located in Hamburg’s Steinwerder district within the Port of Hamburg, is a historic German shipyard specialising in refit, repair, conversion, and maintenance projects for superyachts ranging from 80 to over 160 metres.
Founded in 1877 by Hermann Blohm and Ernst Voss, the shipyard initially built steel-hulled steamships before garnering international recognition in the early twentieth century for its prestigious passenger liners and yachts. Some of its most notable early projects include the 136-metre Savarona (1931), later converted into the Turkish Presidential yacht. Following a period of naval construction during the Second World War, including the construction of the battleship Bismarck, Blohm+Voss resumed its operations in 1950, focusing on building merchant ships and offshore engineering. Blohm+Voss went on to re-establish its superyacht prominence with the delivery of the 119-metre Motor Yacht A in 2008, followed by the 162.5-metre Eclipse in 2010. Acquired by Lürssen in 2016, the shipyard transitioned away from new builds to become Northern Europe’s leading superyacht refit specialist. Today, Blohm+Voss operates across 450,000 square metres with seven docks, including two covered facilities for confidential projects. Dock 10, completed in 2021, is Europe’s largest covered drydock, capable of accommodating yachts up to 200 metres. The shipyard’s fleet includes iconic yachts such as Lady Moura, Mayan Queen IV, and Kosatka, alongside extensive refit and reconstruction for some of the world’s most complex yachts.
